January 5th weather update

Good morning skiers and snowboarders! Today brings classic early-season winter conditions on Mt. Hood and a great opportunity to get out on the hill with gear from Meadowlark Ski & Sports ski rentals in Government Camp. At Mt. Hood Meadows, temperatures have held steady in the low to mid-20s with light snowfall overnight, giving groomers time to consolidate the snow and lay down firm, carvable corduroy. Expect packed powder over a thin hardpack base with some refrozen granular mixed in. Light snow should taper off by late morning, opening the door to brighter skies before the next round of snowfall arrives overnight. West winds in the 15–20 mph range will keep things feeling wintry, so dress warm and be prepared for variable mountain conditions.

Scheduled lifts at Meadows include Mt. Hood Express, Shooting Star, Easy Rider, Buttercup, and the Carpet, with the possibility of adding Daisy if conditions allow. The Nordic Center remains closed today, with trail grooming expected later this week—be sure to check daily updates before heading up.

At Timberline, Bruno’s, Pucci, and Timber Tiger are scheduled to operate. Please note there is no groomed terrain on Pucci, and early-season conditions are in effect across the mountain. Summit Pass Café will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. As operations continue early in the season, lift plans and terrain availability may change quickly. Guests are reminded to respect closed areas, ski or ride in control, and stay alert for variable snow, active mountain operations, and unmarked natural obstacles.

If you’re heading up today, stop by Meadowlark Ski & Sports for fast, friendly ski and snowboard rentals, helmets, and local expertise to help you make the most of current Mt. Hood conditions. Winter is building, the snowpack is improving, and now’s a great time to get your turns in—see you on the mountain!
