April 7th Weather Update

Today’s weather forecast predicts snow showers which could become heavy at times. There is also a chance of thunder accompanying the snowfall. The high temperature will be around 33 degrees Fahrenheit and it will be quite windy with southwest winds blowing at 14 to 24 miles per hour and gusts reaching up to 43 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is very high at 100% indicating that we are likely to see significant snowfall. Overall total daytime snow accumulation could range from 3 to 7 inches so it is advisable to prepare for winter conditions.

Mt. Hood Meadows – ”  We’ve come full circle over the past few days and find ourselves back in winter-like conditions today with light to moderate showers and gusty west winds.  These showers will be elevation dependent.  A ride up from the HRM parking lot to the top of Cascade would have you experiencing pure rain down lower, a mixed precip (snain) at the Base lodge, heavy wet snow at the top of MEX, and by the time you got up to the Cascade area you’d be in a full on blizzard.  However, the HRM chair is closed today so your start is actually at the Base lodge where stormy conditions are in order today.  We also don’t expect to get the Vista or Cascade chairs running today due to the ongoing storm we are in, so focus your attention on the bottom of MEX to the top of MEX .. that’s your range today and anywhere within that range will be either a mixed precip or a wet snow so please bring the proper gear to stay dry as the winds are moderate to strong and you will get wet today.  Consider a second set of goggles and perhaps some waterproof gloves as well.  Expect falling freezing levels that should bottom out overnight and into Tuesday.  That’s the good news in this report.  We also expect an inch or two of heavy wet snow to fall today, and a few more overnight  As for the snow conditions expect a soft pack that is mushy and slushy at lower elevations, and slidy and/or carvable up higher. Springtime on Wyeast .. she’s unpredictable and will throw anything at us, including winter in April.  Come on up and see for yourself!  We are open from 9 AM to 4 PM. “

April 6th Weather Update

Today there is a good chance of showers especially after 4 PM. The snow level will start at 7 300 feet and will rise to 7 900 feet later in the afternoon. The weather will be partly sunny with a high temperature close to 48 degrees. A west wind will blow at about 6 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 60% and we might see new rainfall amounts between one-tenth and a quarter of an inch.

Mt. Hood Meadows – ” Skies are overcast but the temps are staying in the high 30s (for now). Definitely feeling like mixed precip is still possible. “

April 5th Weather Update

The weather today is partly sunny with temperatures reaching a high of about 49 degrees Fahrenheit. In the morning a southwest wind will blow gently at 5 to 7 miles per hour. As the afternoon approaches this wind will calm down. People can expect a mix of sunshine and clouds throughout the day.

Mt. Hood Meadows- “5:30 AM: Our spring butterfly that’s been taking shape the past couple of days takes full flight today with sunny skies and temps that will definitely remind you of what season it is. Expect temps to max out in the low 50’s down at the base with a freezing level pushing up near 10k. Winds will be a non-factor today.  Bring plenty of sun screen  and your springiest ski attire.  While the temperature has already climbed near freezing down at the base, expect firm conditions early due to the effects of radiational cooling, but the softening of the snow will quickly become apparent and a full on spring corn alert will be present by late morning. By this afternoon the mountain should be yours to explore and find lines you wouldn’t dare try if there wasn’t a bed of corn waiting for you to carve up.  We expect to have a busy April day up here so come on up with patience and anticipate a fantastic day on the slopes!  We’ll see you up here from 9 AM to 4 PM. “

Mt Hood Meadows- ” 5:20 AM: Snow flurries are adding some finishing touches to the slopes this morning, depositing a fine layer of fresh flakes on top of this morning’s very nice hardpack corduroy. That extra touch of fresh snow will ensure excellent schussing for your first Wednesday of April.  We’ve also got a full groom and track set down at Nordic for your Spring Break pleasure, so whether you’re looking for lift served cruising or breaking out the extra skinny skis, we’ve got you covered. Yes, that includes park riders too – we have four different terrain parks dialed in for today, plus our in-ground Superpipe and some fun zones to boot. There is a bit of gusty wind in the forecast, but hopefully not enough to keep the lifts under wraps. So far, we’re looking at an all mountain opening today with a very good chance of gated terrain as well, thanks to cool and stable temperatures. Things will warm up a bit tomorrow and through the weekend, so if you want to enjoy some fresh snow and cool conditions, come on up today! ”

Mt. HoodMeadows- ” 5:25 AM:  Lowering freezing levels today along with continued snow showers should serve to improve the snow conditions.  It’s going to feel like winter out there with a strong SW wind that will definitely be felt on exposed ridges. Temps max out in the low to mid 30’s, and will be dropping.  This is storm skiing, Wy’east style, winter style .. be sure to dress for it.  This is good news as it should bring Heather canyon and the Private Reserve back into play with significantly improved conditions.  Expect snowing and blowing with a couple fresh inches overnight and a few more inches to come today.  Enjoy the return to winter. We’ll see you on the slopes! “

March 23rd Weather Update

Precipitation in the form of rain and snow is expected prior to 10 a.m., transitioning to rain thereafter. The snow level is forecasted to start at 5,800 feet, gradually increasing to 7,500 feet by the afternoon. The anticipated high temperature for the day is around 38 degrees Fahrenheit. Conditions will be quite blustery, with westward winds ranging from 26 to 34 mph, and gusts potentially reaching up to 46 mph. There is a 90% likelihood of precipitation, with total daytime snow accumulation projected to be less than half an inch.

Mt. Hood Meadows- ood morning! We’re a couple days into spring, and the weather is playing right along: tons of new snow yesterday, drizzle right now. We’re expecting on-and-off drizzle all day today with up to 0.25″ total rain – not so bad at all! As of early this morning, it was just a bit of mist. Not rain, not a downpour, not a gully-washer, far from the rainiest of rainy days… just a bit of chilly drizzle helping our snowpack settle. If you’re a practiced slalom skier or snowboarder, you might just be able to carve the raindrops like a racecourse and stay dry! (kidding, of course)

Joking aside… for this drizzly day, we have an accompaniment of a stiff breeze that could impact a lift or two, especially after noon. We also have an avalanche warning issued by our friends over at NWAC. Thanks to the former, the wind, Cascade and Vista are highly unlikely today. Thanks to the latter, our gated terrain will remained closed today for your safety and ours. And thanks to all the aforementioned challenges, our slopes should be relatively empty, and lift lines minimal. Show up, and you’ll reap the rewards of last night’s game of groom crew catch-up: more and better grooming than yesterday. Just make sure you’re waxed right for wet snow! And dress right too – toss a parka over your normal mountain fashion for best results. Substitute a clear plastic bag if you still want to show off your snow style. We’re here 9am-4pm today. Hope to see you on the snow for a rousing round of singing and shredding in the rain. See you soon!

March 22nd Weather

There is a 40 percent likelihood of snow showers tonight, accompanied by predominantly cloudy skies and a low temperature near 21 degrees. Winds will be quite strong, blowing from the west at approximately 33 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 50 mph. Snow accumulation during the night may total between 2 to 4 inches.

Mt Hood Meadows-

4:48am: Are you as stoked as we are? 9″ overnight, 19″ in the last 24 hours, 26″ in the last 48. Windy, with clearing on the way. We expect to park out today. Please carpool or take the CAT bus. If we park out, do not walk on the highway or access roads – we want everyone safe! Please don’t park at Teacup – they have a race today. After you score some fresh tracks, join us for Brewfest.
